Why You Need to Activate
GiftCardMall Visa gift cards come pre-loaded but require activation before use. The main reason: activating registers a billing ZIP code to your card, which is required for online purchases and many in-store terminal prompts. Without it, your card will be declined even if it has a balance.
Method 1: Activate Online (Recommended)
- Go to the activation site Visit GiftCardMall.com/mygift in any browser. This is the official portal for all GiftCardMall gift cards.
- Enter your 16-digit card number Flip the card over and locate the 16-digit Visa card number on the front. Enter it exactly as shown, with or without spaces.
- Enter the expiration date and CVV The expiration date (MM/YY) and 3-digit CVV are on the front of the card, near the card number.
- Register your billing ZIP code Enter the ZIP code you want associated with this card. Use your home ZIP or any valid US ZIP — you'll use this same ZIP when checking out online.
- Submit and confirm Click Activate. You'll see a confirmation message. Your card is now ready to use everywhere Visa debit is accepted.
Method 2: Activate by Phone
If you prefer not to go online, you can activate by calling the number printed on the back of your card. Have the following ready:
- Your 16-digit card number
- The expiration date
- The 3-digit CVV (security code)
- Your billing ZIP code
The automated system will walk you through registration and confirm activation before you hang up. If you don't have the number handy, GiftCardMall customer support is reachable at 1-877-426-2551.
Method 3: Activate by Text
Some GiftCardMall Visa cards support SMS activation. Check the card packaging or the back of the card for a text-to-activate number. If available, text your card number to the listed shortcode and follow the prompts.
Using Your Visa Gift Card
In-store purchases
Swipe or tap at the register and select "Credit" when prompted. Enter the billing ZIP if asked. No PIN is required for credit transactions.
Online purchases
Enter the card number, expiration date, and CVV in the payment fields. For the billing address, enter any valid US address — the ZIP must match the one you registered during activation.
Splitting a payment
If your purchase total exceeds your card balance, tell the cashier before swiping and ask them to split the payment. Online, many retailers allow split payment at checkout — pay the gift card amount first, then pay the remainder with another method.
Activation Fees & Expiration
GiftCardMall Visa gift cards have no activation fee — you pay only the face value of the card (plus any purchase fee charged by the seller). The card itself does not expire, though after 12 months of inactivity a monthly service fee may be deducted from the balance. Check your card's terms for exact details.
